I lived and worked for eight months in French Polynesia on the Island of Moorea. Many children would play on the beach everyday just in front of my house. This young guy who had a perpetually sunburned nose from spending all day every day in the sun was one of the friendliest ones of the bunch and we became friends. His hair was sun exposed and furry, which I thought resembled the fur on a coconut that has tumbled in the ocean for a long time. Therefore painted the portrait in the colors of the coconut; and gave him a red nose. He is the Coconut Kid.
