Description
This is a painting of a Wishham Bride wearing braids, beaded headdress with Chinese coins, dentalium shell earrings, beaded buckskin dress, beads around neck. This portrait was painted from a photograph made by the great American photographer Edward S. Curtis. He documented the native American in the early 20th Century. He is an inspiration and role model to me. His life story and adventures are one of the reasons my work took the direction of celebrating the Indigenous People of the world.
My sister Liza lives up in Washington State and asked me to make a portrait from the photo by Edward S. Curtis. She has friends on the Yakama Indian Reservation where many of the Wishham folks live. The colors are inspired from my friendship with my sister.
I thought of her throughout the making of the painting adding bright spots that I thought she would enjoy and even hid her name in the portrait. I am grateful to her and her support throughout my life. She has been a loving sister and kind patron.
We are offering a limited edition of Fine Art Prints on Paper signed by me. The print will be made on heavy weight archival 100% cotton acid free paper. Signed and delivered in a sturdy mailing tube.
