Bennett met this woman somewhere in between Tsumkwe and Gam. She fulfilled his vision of what a typical San woman would look like. He used very earthy colors in this painting, reflecting his feelings upon meeting her; she seemed very peaceful and at one with her surroundings. She is wearing some traditional beading, but with western clothing, probably given to her by missionaries or tourists.
